Former BFI Film Academy particpant leaps into the world of film and TV!
We received a long email from one of our BFI Film Academy particpants. Graham, (at the time) aged 18 and pictured above (second from left) on the BBC Breakfast sofa discussing our Academy film The Old Tale of Mad Jack Mytton, has certainly got a story to tell....
Here's an extract from his email:
Following the BFI Film Academy with MediaActive, I got onto the Academy craft skills residential at the National Film & Television School (NFTS), which was amazing. My eyes were opened to what the film industry is like and how anything is possible if you put your mind to it.
After the BFI residential I emailed and emailed until I got a work experience on TABOO as a production Assistant. I then got my first paid runner job on Fleabag for the BBC. Before I knew it I was then given 3 weeks’ work experience with Sarah Radcliffe the Co-founder of Working Title productions because she "loved my email”.
Sarah put me in touch with some great people and after that, I emailed anyone I could find. 70% wouldn't reply. 25% didn't have any work at the moment. 2.5% just stopped replying, but the remaining 2.5% - well, as you know things can change so suddenly and I was invited to an interview for a Channel 4 production.
At the same time I heard about a Future Skills course which I decided to apply for. They liked me and wanted me to go to Pinewood for an interview the following week, I was ecstatic.
I struggle to remember what was actually said in the interview but I know my passion for Film Production came across. At the end of the interview I know I said "No one else wants this job as much as I do".
I got the Future Skills job - I was in proper shock! "We want you to start as soon as possible" they said. And that’s why I am sat in my room in North West London sending you an email on my day off from working on a film I am the biggest Fan of!
It all began in Wem with MediaActive. Thankyou! If there is ever anything I can do please let me know
